China-Brunei joint venture operates Brunei container terminal
The Muara Port Company Sdn. Bhd(MPC), a joint venture formed by Guangxi Beibu Gulf Port Group and Brunei's Darussalam Asset, was inaugurated on February 22, marking the two sides began their cooperation in operating Muara Container Terminal, the largest container terminal in Brunei.
Chinese Ambassador to Brunei Yang Jian said that launching of the joint venture shows new progress in infrastructure cooperation between the two countries.
Yang noted Brunei is an important country along the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, hoping that bilateral cooperation could be further deepened in various fields.
Dato Amin Liew, deputy finance minister of Brunei and CEO of Darussalam Asset, hoped that the joint venture could be committed to improving the operational efficiency and cargo throughput capacity of the port and reducing logistics costs.
Establishment of the joint venture also represents that the flagship project of the "Brunei-Guangxi Economic Corridor" has been successfully launched.
