GLOBALink | Chinese EV maker assists Kenya in transition toward green mobility
BasiGo, a Kenyan electric bus company, is showcasing its locally-assembled electric buses at a low-carbon e-mobility showcase activity during the ongoing second session of the United Nations Habitat Assembly in Nairobi.
BasiGo is the first company in Kenya to launch electric buses. It assembles buses locally by using parts which are designed by Chinese EV maker BYD.
Moses Nderitu, Chief Revenue Officer of BasiGo, said it's urgent to start tackling issues related to climate change or pollution in Kenya. He added that cooperating with Chinese companies helps a lot in his company's development.
Under the partnership between BasiGo and BYD, 17 electric buses have been put into operation in Nairobi.
Kenya launched its first charging station for public electric buses on May 25, in an effort to boost the country's transition toward green mobility.
