Pakistani Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad said on Thursday that the railway project of Main Line-1 (ML-1) under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) will prove to be a milestone in the country's development journey, as it would boost industrialization and create new opportunities for locals.

Pakistan's railways will enter into a new era with the help of this project, the minister told a press conference in Islamabad, adding that with the completion of the project, the entire railway track from southern port city of Karachi to northwestern city of Peshawar will be upgraded.

Ahmad said that tenders for the project would be issued this month.

Earlier in August, the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council of Pakistan approved the ML-1 project of rehabilitation and upgradation of the railway track between Karachi and Peshawar.
