China (Yunnan) Pilot Free Trade Zone (Kunming Area)
The China (Yunnan) Pilot Free Trade Zone was officially launched on August 30, 2019. It consists of three areas totalling 119.86 sq km: the Kunming Area (76 sq km, including the 0.58-sq km Kunming comprehensive bonded zone), the Honghe Area (14.12 sq km) and the Dehong Area (29.74 sq km).
The Kunming Area of China (Yunnan) Pilot Free Trade Zone will help to achieve the central government's goal of expediting the opening-up of border regions. Efforts will be made to construct a major corridor connecting Belt and Road markets with the Yangtze River Economic Belt as well as key hubs that link to South Asia and Southeast Asia, so as to further open up the border regions and enhance China's influence in South Asia and Southeast Asia.
The Kunming Area of China (Yunnan) Pilot Trade Zone will be built into a high-standard and high-quality zone with convenient trade and investment, accessible transportation and logistics, improved financial services, safe and efficient supervision, first-rate ecological environment, and outstanding driving force. It will become a center of open innovation, institutional innovation and industrial innovation to South and Southeast Asia.
The Kunming Area based on the comprehensive hub of Kunming, actively integrates and serves national strategies such as the Belt and Road, Yangtze River Economic Belt, and the western development. It focuses on the cooperation with South and Southeast Asian countries, and improves the international and open innovation system, forming a new border economic development pattern featuring openness and innovation, and building a connectivity hub, an information logistics center and a cultural and educational center to South and Southeast Asia.
With institutional innovation as its core, the Kunming Area uses the world-class business environment as a benchmark to produce more international and competitive innovations. It provides a quality business environment and reduces the operation cost for industries, and builds an innovative work pattern to promote the economic and social development.
