SOCHI, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) --Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is "promising" and that Russia-China cooperation is an important stabilizing factor in global affairs.

Putin made the remarks when answering a question from Xinhua at the plenary session of the 20th Annual Meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club in Sochi.

Referring to China's impressive economic growth, Putin said that China has become "one of the leading locomotives of the global economy."

As to bilateral cooperation, Putin said that the two sides will implement infrastructure development plans for the construction of a Greater Eurasia, the Eurasian Economic Union, and the development of the "promising BRI."

Putin also stressed that both countries are not looking to create military blocs against anyone.

Cooperation between Russia and China has become an important stabilizing factor in international affairs, he said.

Under the theme of "Fair Multipolarity: How to Ensure Security and Development for Everyone," the 20th Annual Meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club took place on Oct. 2-5, and was attended by about 140 specialists, legislators, and diplomats from over 40 countries and regions.
