BEIJING, April 29 (Xinhua) -- Beijing Daxing International Airport is expected to handle 4,364 inbound and outbound flights and 661,700 passengers during the upcoming five-day May Day holiday, the airport said on Monday.

It will see a steady increase in border arrivals and departures, with a daily average number of passengers exceeding 14,000. Destinations like the United Arab Emirates, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore are expected to be popular choices, the airport said.

Airline companies will take a raft of measures to meet the holiday travel demand, including increased flights on certain routes and the deployment of wide-body aircraft.

Beijing's Daxing airport, located 46 kilometers south of downtown Beijing, was designed to ease pressure on the overcrowded Beijing Capital International Airport in the city's northeastern suburbs. It sits at the junction of Beijing's Daxing District and Langfang, a city in the neighboring Hebei Province.

China's May Day holiday will last from May 1 to 5 this year.
