BEIJING, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- A series of partnership action plans proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping at the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) demonstrates China's willingness to support the modernization of the Global South, including Africa, said a senior African Union official.

In a speech at the summit's opening ceremony, Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat paid tribute to President Xi for strengthening the China-Africa partnership under the FOCAC framework.

He voiced support for the China-proposed Global Security Initiative, Global Development Initiative and Global Civilization Initiative, saying that they all aim to build peace, solidarity, and prosperity for humanity and are in perfect harmony with the AU Agenda 2063.

Faki noted that since its launch in 2000, the FOCAC has been distinguished by achievements in many African countries through projects in sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture, energy and others.

African countries understand the importance of unity for each nation and have never hesitated to support the one-China principle and the peaceful reunification of China, said Faki.

China and Africa have faced similar historical challenges, and this shared history has created a strong bond between the two sides, Faki said.
